Introduction

Compost Care exists to expand the capacity of hyperlocal community-led organics recovery initiatives, and create the required conditions for their ongoing operation.

We currently operate Australia’s only dedicated bicycle-based organics recovery (REAL) service, and help to maintain a distributed network of open-access, community-run composting facilities.

Our self-funding social enterprise model offers:

  • undermining our disastrous reliance on fossil energy
  • transforming commercial waste into community value
  • creating opportunity for “green-collar” employment
  • building the conditions for a human-survivable future

We have been working for over a decade now to steadily expand local and onsite composting capacity in our own neighbourhoods, to build a network of safe, reliable, and community-owned organic resource recovery stations embedded into the urban/suburban environment.

To support this sustainability agenda, are developing an open source library of specialised hardware patterns to address the political constraints of existing in so-called “australia” today, while creating the broadest possible social access to enjoy the collective benefits together.
